Huntedon Central Varsity Boys Win Conference

October 21, 2008.  The Hunterdon Central High School Boys' Varsity team won 3-2 to clinch their Conference today with their decisive win over long-time rival, North Hunterdon Central HS.  Central, down 1-0 at half time, saw their deficit increase to 2-0 before coming back and scoring 3 unanswered goals in the final 24 minutes of the match.  Goals by Zak Gomes, Nich Chiarella and a 30 yard blast by Tim Dragon secured the Devils' Champioship slot.  Pondering the results of the game, one could not help ask: what was more interesting -  the overall accomplishments of this team, lead by first-year varsity coach (and GFSC trainer), Anson Smith; or the fact that all three goals were scored by the team's Co-Captains, Gomez, Chiarella and Dragon?  A true leadership effort on all fronts!!! 

While proud of the Devils High School team, is it also worth noting GFSC, its leadership, and the Club's dedication to strong training by groups such as Total Soccer, Soccersmith and other fine professional organizations. Both High Shcool teams fielded numerous active players from the GFSC Knights (U-17), and the GFSC Phantoms (U-18), two teams with a long and proud history of soccer within our Club.  The respect these players showed one another on the field was mutual ... just imagine what awaits their regular Club season when they combine to take on others in Club-ball Tournaments.
